It's no secret that I love my Pashley Guvnor and now I've fallen in love with the Country Clubman too! Pashley Cycles is England's longest established bicycle manufacturer. Founded in 1926 and based in Stratford-upon-Avon.
They have kindly donated a gorgeous Country Clubman bicycle for me to ride on the challenge and we'll auction it off on eBay at the end of the tour for the chosen charities. Thank you Pashley.
Husband and wife partnership Simon and Ann Cooper have come up with a beautiful and practical "home grown" boat. Anne bridges the gap between qoroz (a cycle sponsor of mine who make stunning ti bikes) and Flaxland. Ann is always so encouraging! Simon is the boat designer & builder a farmer and an all round great guy with lots of ideas.
I always like working with the fine chaps of Chapeau! who reside in Devon. They describe themselves as "Purveyors of Fine Cycling Apparel", I have to agree completely.
I have known Heather, the owner of Saddles & Paddles for quite some time. She is an enthusiastic lady with a love of life, adventure and sustainable travel.
Why not have a mini adventure in Exeter and hire a bicycle or a canoe or both!
Saddles & Paddles have a very special offer for anyone who makes a donation! Thank you Saddles & Paddles
Bikelands is a family run business that feels as if it has been established for years, yet it's only just over a year old! Rebecca & Stuart have worked their magic for cyclists! Pop in and say "hello"
The massage clinic in Exmouth
offers skilled assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to soft tissue injuries
that cause pain, injury and lifestyle limitation. Basically, they get
me ready and keep me going!
thank you to The Massage Clinic Team !
I met Quoc Pham a few years ago and was taken by his dedication and desire to get things right. He is a true gentleman, a keen cyclist and most clearly has an artistic eye.
Quoc, quite simply makes very beautiful shoes and I'm delighted to be wearing them on my tour.
(click the Quoc Pham logo for a pretty cool video too!)
Well I'm not going to get far without a cup of tea, so Marc & Carol who run the Ringtons operation in my area have kindly supplied me with enough tea bags for me and hopefully enough for anyone who pops along to say "hello"!
Thank you both very much.
I'd like to thank Nick Lobnitz for supplying a very essential and clever bit of kit that connects the bike to the boat in a positive, simple and efficient manner.
Magic Bike Mike is a bit of a star and has helped me out on a number of occasions. He has a great philosophy to cycling, building bikes and the local community. Thank you Mike for your help.
The flag of Devon is dedicated to St Petroc a local saint with numerous dedications throughout the shire.
St Petroc's Day is 4th June, which just happens to be my birthday! Huzzah!
As many of you know, I fly the flag of Devon at any opportunity I can and so I'd particularly like to thank Carol and Alan of DevonFlag for providing me with a special Devon pennant to fly on my tour.
If you love Devon, just click the DevonFlag above for some fab flags & gifts!
active 10 - I just love this bit of kit! I used it for 9 weeks when we circumnavigated the UK coastline and it will now be a very useful on this 4 week challenge.
I've known Mitch at AS Watersports for many year and watched as his business has grown. Mitch is passionate about all things paddling.
When my problem solving faltered, Mitch came to the rescue!
Many thanks Mitch for your help & support.
Exmouth is a brilliant cycle friendly coastal resort with two fabulous cycle paths, most of which is traffic free. We hold our Velo Vintage Occasion & Rides there and the council has been just great at making us feel welcome. So it seemed fitting that this challenge should finish in the centre of town.
Two members of Axe Vale Canoe Club, Geoff Hunt and Tash Khan-Davis have been so helpful to the project. This friendly club is a model of how local clubs should operate; friendly, social and encouraging. Geoff Hunt seems to have a canal full of knowledge and a calm, well thought out approach to problems. Tash is hugely skilled - makes it all seem so easy and add to that loads of enthusiasm!
A superb cafe/bar/venue in the very heart of Exmouth run by a great guy. Thank you George for your amazing support for my zany ideas!
By the way, Spoken serves mussels and chips to die for!
The Swan Inn is a family run inn with a fabulous range of refreshments & exceedingly tasty food! I can't help but to try and include it as a venue and as a gathering place for the final day it's just perfect!
P.S. We have to mention the fish chowder served in a large cottage loaf, it is ladies and gentlemen truly scrumptious!
